What are the functions and common faults of the horn voice coil?

Transmitting audio signals, that is to say, when the audio signal passes through the speaker diaphragm voice coil, the coil will generate a magnetic field, which interacts with the magnet on the speaker to generate vibration and restore the sound.


The Replacement Diaphragm voice coil is the heart of a PA Loudspeaker, usually made of copper enameled wire wrapped around a basin frame. The quality of a voice coil depends on whether it can withstand high temperatures and whether it has strong adhesion. The voice coil is a key device for converting electrical energy into sound in a speaker. The electrical energy input into the voice coil is converted into mechanical energy to drive the vibration plate to produce sound. The voice coil is made by winding enameled wire on the core cylinder using a winding machine. The parameters and quality of the voice coil winding have a significant impact on the rated power rating characteristics, total harmonic distortion, and service life of the horn.




The enameled wire used for winding voice coils can be divided into copper aluminum wire and copper clad aluminum wire according to the material. Copper wire is easy to solder and is widely used in high-performance speakers. In order to improve the performance of the speaker, increase its analytical power, and improve its damping, it is necessary to use oxygen free copper wire with a purity of 5N9 or above. Aluminum wire has the advantages of light weight and high efficiency, which can improve the high pitch and sensitivity of the speaker. It also has short boards that are not easy to process and weld. Therefore, it should only be used when there are special requirements. Copper clad aluminum wire is a combination of both advantages. Although the welding quality is light, the price is high, so it can only be used in situations with high requirements.


There are two common faults:

1. Contact ablation: If the micro horn is pressed for a long time, it is easy to cause the horn contact to burn and generate impedance. The current flowing through the electromagnetic coil weakens, the electromagnetic attraction decreases, and it cannot attract the armature to drive the diaphragm to vibrate normally, resulting in hoarse or even no sound. There is also an example where when the horn is continuously pressed, there is a sudden strong current passing through the impedance during the pressing period, and it will be able to work normally. When the current ends, it will not continue to work, and there are sometimes good and sometimes bad situations.

2. Sealing gap causing moisture: Although the interior of the micro horn is sealed, if the seal is not tight and water vapor or mist from the air enters during car washing, the contacts will also not work properly due to moisture.
Voice coil
