How to select PA Loudspeaker with good sound quality

High quality audio will produce sound quality. There are some indicators for reference.

1. Speaker horn sensitivity; This index refers to the sound pressure level measured one meter away from the vertical axis of the loudspeaker plane when inputting 1W/1kHz signal to the horn loudspeaker input terminal. The unit of sensitivity is decibel (dB). Every 3dB difference in the sensitivity of the speaker will double the output sound pressure. The sensitivity of ordinary speakers is in the range of 85~90dB. Below 85dB is low sensitivity, and above 90dB is high sensitivity. Generally, the sensitivity of multimedia speakers is slightly lower.

2. Speaker frequency response range: the full name of the frequency response range is frequency range and frequency response. The former refers to the range between the lowest effective playback frequency and the highest effective playback frequency of the horn speaker system; The latter refers to the phenomenon that when an audio signal output at a constant voltage is connected to the system, the sound pressure generated by the speaker increases or decays with the change of frequency, and the phase changes with the change of frequency. The correlation between the sound pressure, phase and frequency is called frequency response, in decibels (dB). The curve of sound pressure and phase lag changing with frequency is called "amplitude frequency characteristic" and "phase frequency characteristic" respectively. Together, it is called "frequency characteristic", which is an important indicator to examine the performance of speakers. It has a direct relationship with the performance and price of speakers. The more the decibel value is, the flatter the frequency response curve, the smaller the distortion and the higher the performance of the speaker will be.

3. Speaker power: This indicator can be simply described as how powerful the sound from the speaker can be. According to international standards, there are two ways to label power: rated power and withstand power (instantaneous power or peak power PMPO). The rated power refers to the undistorted power that can be emitted by the loudspeaker when a continuous analog signal with specified waveform is given to the loudspeaker within the rated frequency range, while the withstand power is the electrical power that does not cause any damage to the loudspeaker. In order to cater to consumers' psychology, businesses usually mark the music power very high, so when purchasing multimedia speakers, the rated power shall prevail.

4. Distortion: The definition of distortion of the speaker is basically the same as that of the amplifier. The difference is that the amplifier inputs electrical signals and outputs electrical signals, while the speaker inputs electrical signals and outputs acoustic signals. So the distortion of the speaker refers to the distortion of the electroacoustic signal conversion. The allowable distortion range of sound wave is within 10%, and the human ear is not sensitive to distortion within 5%. Do not buy speakers with distortion greater than 5%.
